Santa Croce festivity in Lucca is a celebration of deep religious faith, where all citizens get together to celebrate the icon of Volto Santo (Holy Face), that was since the Middle age a reference point for all Europe. Santa Croce is a popular celebration for all inhabitants, even those who live abroad, a great occasion to re-discover the unity of population: in front of the Holy Face, everybody feels the deep meaning of his own origin and homeland.
Together with the celebration of the Holy Cross , the month of September is the month that fully express the vitality of the territory. As it did in the past, still today the city takes the chance to stay together, to renew its local, religious tradition and its being unite: that is what made of Lucca a great example for all cities, even outside the national borders.
